Creating Embedded Mattes in AE

Sometimes you need to create EXR files with an embedded matte. The most straightforward way I’ve found, is the following:

  1. Create a duplicate comp with just the matte (you could also pre-render the matte).
  2. Use the matte as a track matte…

3. Then I add to the Render Queue as normal and use these settings for the Output Module…

NOTE:

By default, AE won’t let you set the ‘Color’ setting to ‘Straight (Unmatted)’ for EXRs.

You need to download and run the script below (just once) so AE lets you change that…
